The story so far...

Penny Red From somewhere that feels like nowhere, around the dimmer recesses of the Suffolk and Essex borders have come Penny Red, a four-piece guitar band looking to cause a racket.

Penny Red are a band who formed before their members learnt to play their instruments, picking up guitars as kids looking for exit strategies. Their inception came out of teenage anger and apathy, at a time when they felt that the most successful bands they were listening to were also the most soulless.

Malcolm and Rich They grew up despising the ambivalence of the Brit-Pop fraudsters, and adoring the howls of Nirvana and Radiohead, the spirit of The Wildhearts and the passion of early Manic Street Preachers. To this day, they have continued to place few restrictions on themselves, refusing to be strait-jacketed by the fashions of the moment.

After a long period of germination in garages, back rooms and practice studios, surviving various ill-advised false starts, 2004 saw Penny Red emerge as a live act around East Anglia, before embarking on their first studio recordings. These were completed at Amber Studios in Chelmsford with the help of Mr Mark Wickenden. In early 2005 the mini-album 'Monsters' was formed from seven songs of defiance, driven by the band's raucous rock energy.

Alan At the start of 2007, Penny Red continue to play live, perfecting their high-octane set. As a live act the band deliver with an aggressive punch, while ensuring that the music always returns home with a pop heart.

Further recordings have just been completed to form the new CD 'Apocalyptic Dreams', which perhaps finally communicatres the spirit of abandon true to some of the country’s last great believers.
